November Sunday Services, 11 a.m.
2 - Communion. Lead a Life Worthy of
    God. Psalm 107:1–7, 33–37; I
    Thessalonians 2:9–13. The theme of
transformed lives is reinforced in the
text of Psalm 107. In Thessalonians,
    Paul artfully weaves together timely
instruction for the church to receive the
teachings of Christ. Painting: Christ at
Heart's Door, Warner Sallman (1892-1968).

    9 - Remember God's Promises. Psalm
78:1–7. The psalmist implores us to
listen as he calls us to remember the
“glorious deeds of the Lord.”  Photo:

    16 - Be Faithful Stewards. Matthew 25:
14–30. The parable of the talents tells
us we are not exact copies of one
another, that we are all gifted differently
and are called to different expressions
of service according to our gifts. Photo: Members of the Donetsk,

23 - Recognize Jesus Among Us.
    Matthew 25:31–46. Matthew portrays
the “second coming” in sharp contrast
to the first coming. This time, Christ
comes in glory, with all the nations
    assembled before him. He conveys
God’s blessing to those who have done
deeds of loving kindness. Image: Gautama Buddha calms a rogue
elephant in a painting in a Laotion temple. Artist unknown.

30 - Keep Awake! First Sunday of
    Advent and beginning of Lectionary
Year B.  Mark 13:24–37. All the
certainties of the disciples about the
reality of life and death are to be shaken
and broken immediately in the coming
crucifixion of Jesus and again at the fall
of Jerusalem around 70 AD. Painting:
    Crucifixion of Jesus. Artist unknown.
